LICEO SCIENTIFICO GIACOMO ULIVI-PARMA
Liceo “Giacomo Ulivi” is a general secondary school with a scientific orientation, in Parma. It has around 1600 students and 100 teachers. In recent years Parma has seen a fast-growing presence of migrant workers from European and non-European countries. The challenges faced at social, institutional and educational level are the prevention of xenophobic behaviours and the prevention of dropouts at school, in a context where new poverties are emerging as a consequence of the economic crisis. Liceo “Giacomo Ulivi” is committed to the promotion of behaviours inspired to respect, understanding of diversity, active participation and has been working on the introduction of strategies to facilitate access to secondary education to socially disadvantaged pupils and to pupils of immigrant families. The goal will be increasing European citizenship, by learning about other countries and collaborating with students from other European areas. The school is involved in several projects and has experience in the following areas: • Cultural exchanges with schools of several foreign countries •Planning of learning activities in order to promote active citizenship, the acquisition and assessment of skills and competences for lifelong learning. Our teachers of scientific-technical, Historical, Artistic, literary and linguistic areas (English) are concerned about a quality education and want to improve languages, new motivating technologies using innovative ICT and new methodologies.
